A public round-table discussion on the theory of Permanent Revolution and the ideas of Leon Trotsky, and how these ideas are now shaping the revolution in Venezuela, Cuba, and the rest of Latin America.

Leading the discussion will be Celia Hart and Jorge Martin.
Celia Hart has been an outspoken defender of the political and revolutionary heritage of Leon Trotsky in Cuba. She comes from a family of veteran Cuban revolutionaries who fought against the Batista dictatorship together with Fidel.

Jorge Martin is one of the leading members of International Marxist Tendency, a revolutionary Marxist group with more than 30 sections around the world. With CMR (Corriente Marxista Revolucionaria, the Venezuelan section of IMT) and FRETECO (Revolutionary Front of Occupied Factory Movement in Venezuela), he has been actively involved in the occupied factory movement in Latin America.

Jorge Martin just returned from Havana Book Fair in February 2008 where on behalf of Frederick Engels Foundation (FFE), he, along with Celia Hart, presided the official launching of Trotsky's Revolution Betrayed in Cuba. This was the first time that a book by Leon Trotsky has officially been presented in Cuba.

The theory of Permanent Revolution and the ideas of Leon Trotsky is one of the main revolutionary ideas that are now shaping the process in Venezuela and Cuba, and Latin America as a whole. Last year (April 22), in Alo Presidente program, President Chavez said: "… I respect very much the thoughts of Leon Trotsky, and the more I respect him the more I understand him better. The permanent revolution for instance, is an extremely important thesis. We must read, we must study, all of us, nobody here can think he already knows". He then continued on talking about the importance of Leon Trotsky's ideas in Latin America.

Une invitation grand public est lancée pour une discussion en table ronde des idées de Léon Trotsky sur la Révolution permanente et de leur impact sur les révolutions en cours au Venezuela, à Cuba et en Amérique latine.

La discussion sera menée par Celia Hart et Jorge Martin. Celia Hart est un ardente partisane de l'héritage politique et révolutionnaire de Léon Trotsky à Cuba. Elle a grandi au sein d'une famille de révolutionnaires cubains de la première heure qui, avec Fidel, ont combattus la dictature de Batista.

Jorge Martin est l'un des leaders du groupe Tendance Marxiste Internationale (TMI) un groupe révolutionnaire marxiste comptant plus de 30 subdivisions à travers le monde. En collaboration avec le CMR (Courant Marxiste Révolutionnaire, la division vénézuélienne de TMI) et FRETECO (Le Front Révolutionnaire des Travailleurs des Usines Occupées), il a été impliqué dans le mouvement d'occupation de l'usine en Amérique latine.

Jorge Martin revient du Salon du livre de La Havane, en février 2008 où il représentait la Fondation Frederick Engels (FFE). En compagnie de Celia Hart, il a présidé au lancement du livre " La Révolution Trahie" de Trotsky. C'était la première fois qu'un livre de Léon Trotsky soit présenté officiellement à Cuba.

La théorie de Révolution permanente et les idées de Léon Trotsky ont une influence révolutionnaire de taille sur les développements en cours au Venezuela, à Cuba et en Amérique latine. L'année dernière (le 22 avril 2007), le président Chavez déclarait dans son programme Alo Presidente: « J'ai beaucoup de respect pour les idées de Léon Trotsky, et ce respect me permet de mieux comprendre sa pensée. La Révolution permanente, par exemple, est une thèse extrêmement importante. Nous nous devons de lire et d'étudier tous; personne ne peut prétendre savoir d'avance… ». Chavez a ensuite poursuivi sur l'importance des idées de Léon Trotsky en Amérique latine.
